Year 6 Cantamath Information

For nearly 40 years the Canterbury Mathematical Association has been running Cantamath, a Mathematics competition for students in years 7 – 10. This year for the first time we are extending Cantamath, in a reduced form, into Year 6.

The competition for Year 6 in 2010 will include a class display competition and an individual problem challenge; more details on each of these are below.  Both will be part of the display section of Cantamath and schools are encouraged to refer to the information and rules for this section on our website, www.canterburymaths.org.nz/cantamath.

Entries for both of these competitions are due to the Town Hall on Tuesday 10th August between 4pm and 6pm.  Judging will occur on the morning of Wednesday 11th August and the display will then be open to the schools to visit from 1pm til 3pm on Wednesday 11th August and between 9am and 3pm on Thursday 12th August.  Entries may be collected from the Town Hall after 8pm on Thursday night.  You may like to ask a nearby secondary school to collect your work for you.

In each display competition the entries are judged and prizes are given for Highly Commended (certificate only) and Excellence (certificate and badge).  All entries in the display competition will receive a participation certificate and are eligible for an outstanding award.  This award is given to the best 3 – 4 overall entries in the competition.  An outstanding award receives special mention in all publications and may include a prize from one/some of our sponsors.  There is also a class prize from Every Educaid for the best class project.

There is no cost to enter this competition.
